Six months after Airtel Nigeria won the Fifth Generation (5G) bid, the company has launched its commercial 5G network in Nigeria.
During the media launch in Lagos, Airtel announced that the network was now available in Lagos, Ogun, Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking during the launch, Airtel Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Carl Cruz, said 5G will revolutionize the way things are done because life is about to get simpler, easier, and more interesting for a lot of people in Nigeria pointing out that unique advantage of Airtel Nigeria launch of Fifth Generation mobile network (5G,) is in the company ‘s commitment to bring imagination to reality for everyone.
Mr. Cruz said that 5G ushers in a new era of collaboration that breaks boundaries and presents a new wave of economic benefits for the present generation and the next adding that the country is waiting anxiously to see how young people will explore the new world of instant and unbroken connections to unleash a revolution in creativity.
The Airtel Nigeria CEO said Nigeria attained this height in the evolution of mobile telephony because of the efforts by the leadership of the ministry of communicationsand Digital economic Economy and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Airtel Nigeria is proud to be an early mover with 5G technology, not just in Africa but all over the world.
Mr. Cruz said 5G is a completely new experience that supercharges cloud computing, telemedicine, self-driving cars, cloud gaming, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR & VR), Internet of Things (IoT), Smart homes, and so much more. as Airtel Nigeria goal is to make 5G accessible and widespread in the country.
In a remark the Chief Commercial Officer Airtel Nigeria Mr. Femi Osilaja who explained that while Airtel is planning for nation wide coverage, 5G will be available across four states including Lagos, Ogun state , Rivers state and the Federal capital territory added that with Samsung as technical partner Airtel 5g will work on IOS and Android phones as cheap as one hundred and twenty two thousand, 122,000.
Mr. Osilaja said Airtel 5G is affordable and accessible .
